Full Arch Dental Implants

Advanced Permanent Teeth Replacement Solutions Right Here in Hudson MA

A healthy smile is the result of more than just individual teeth. It’s a complete system that works together to support speech, chewing, facial structure, and confidence. Over time that system can fail, leading patients to wonder what the next step is. If you’re losing your natural teeth, you’ve probably heard of individual replacements such as crowns, bridges, or implants.

These can be great solutions for many people, but there may come a time where treating teeth one by one is no longer effective or practical. That’s where fixed full arch implants come in. Rather than replacing teeth individually, this approach is designed to restore the entire upper or lower set of teeth as one complete system.

Fixed Full Arch Implants don’t need to be removed every night. They feel comfortable and natural. And best of all, they can rebuild your smile and give you back the functionality so you can eat the foods you used to enjoy.

If you are experiencing advanced dental breakdown or complete tooth loss, we invite you to come in for a consultation on fixed full arch dental implants. Contact us today at (978) 562-2782 to learn more.

What Are Fixed Full Arch Implants?

Fixed full arch implants are designed to replace all of the teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. Rather than restoring teeth one at a time, the entire arch is rebuilt as a single, stable unit supported by dental implants.

Fixed full arch implants:

Replace a full upper arch, lower arch, or both
Are supported by four to six dental implants per arch
Anchor a full-arch prosthetic bridge for maximum stability
Restore both full chewing function and natural aesthetics
Reestablish a balanced, functional bite across the entire arch
Are permanently fixed in place and not removable by the patient (only the dentist or oral surgeon if need be)

Rather than rebuilding teeth individually with bridges or crowns, this approach restores the entire arch as one coordinated system supported by strategically-placed implants.

Treatment Options For Full Arch Rehabilitation

There are many ways to restore your smile. While some options focus on preserving existing teeth, others replace all of the teeth in an arch. Here are some of the most common approaches to full arch rehabilitation performed here at Hudson Family Dental.

Full Mouth Crown Rehabilitation: This is for patients whose natural teeth are still in good general shape but who have aesthetic or bite concerns. A full set of crowns can be placed on the existing teeth, with no need for full extraction.
Removable Full Denture (No Implants): This involves removing the teeth, leaving only soft tissue. A fully removable appliance is placed on the gums, but this is the least stable option.
Implant Overdenture (Snap-In Denture or Bar Overdenture): The patient is fitted for a denture that “snaps” in and out as needed, offering Improved stability vs. traditional dentures.
Fixed Full Arch Implants: Supported by four to six implants per arch, this prosthesis is permanently screwed in, only to be removed by the dentist as needed. This option offers the highest stability and function level.

Bite Force Comparison

As you lose your teeth, you lose your biting force, which is basically the ability to chew food. Biting force is actually one of the biggest benefits of choosing fixed full arch implants over other treatment options. Here’s a breakdown:

Patients in full dentures with no implants have 20 percent of normal biting force.
Patients with overdentures have a biting force of 50 percent.
Patients with a fixed full arch have a 90 percent biting force.

To put this in perspective, this can mean the difference between having to eat only mashed potatoes and being able to eat steak tips.

Planning and Precision

Fixed full arch implants are a combination of a surgical and a prosthetic-driven procedure. Because implants must be placed in particular areas to support the denture, it’s a technique-sensitive approach that requires thoughtful treatment planning regarding aesthetic and functional goals.

Like building a house, a contractor can’t pour the foundation without knowing what the structure above it will look like. In a similar way, implants act as the foundation of the structure, determining the outcome of the final prosthesis design.

By this point, the patient is healed and can start eating what they want, with special care taken not to bite into hard candies or apples. Just like natural teeth, a fixed full arch implant can chip or crack if caution isn’t taken, requiring replacement.

After the final prosthesis is added, patients are put on a three-month recall to assess the level of cleaning and care. If all looks good, they will graduate to a four- to six-month recall. This puts ownership on the patient to maintain their teeth and ensure good oral hygiene.

Patients are instructed to brush their teeth and gums regularly and use a water flosser to gently irrigate food and debris from around the implants. This helps to prevent inflammation, bone loss, and bleeding from occurring.

Step-by-Step Treatment Process: What to Expect

Not a process to be rushed, fixed full arch implants often take about one year from start to finish, with long-term success depending on staged healing and adjustments. Here’s a look at what to expect from the process.

3D CBCT scan: Using a cone beam computed tomography system, we will take a 3D x-ray of your head for full evaluation of the bone. We will also take digital surface level scans and work with the lab to create a surgical guide that determines placement and appearance of the final prosthesis.
Day of surgery: The procedure is performed in our office under the direction of our skilled dentists, with possible oral surgeon collaboration if needed. General or local anesthesia can be used, depending on patient preference.
Removal of teeth and implant placement
Bone smoothing and prep
Immediate temporary prosthesis placement

Consultation and evaluation: During this initial visit, we will review your medical history, educate you on the surgery, and go over costs.
Follow-up visits are scheduled over the next three to four months to assess healing and adjust bite.
Prosthesis is removed.
Photogrammetry scan is done, which uses multiple images to create a highly accurate 3D model of the mouth for designing a final restoration.
Final prosthesis is created.
Revisions and adjustments are made over the next two to three months, with follow-ups progressing from there.

The Long-Term Value of Fixed Full Arch Implants

The process may take a while but the results will last for decades. For many patients, this investment means they can enjoy 30 to 40 years of reliable function and greatly improved quality of life.
