Fluoride Treatments

A Warrior Against Tooth Decay

Fluoride seems to be everywhere – in toothpaste, mouth rinses, and even in the municipal water supply. This is for good reason. This mineral that occurs naturally in many foods and water has been proven to help prevent tooth decay. In fact, it can reverse early decay and even re-mineralize your tooth enamel.

Many people are concerned about the possible harmful effects of fluoride, but it’s only harmful when consumed in very large quantities. That said, it’s unlikely it would reach toxic levels because of the low amount of fluoride in products available over the counter such as toothpastes and mouth rinses.

The benefits of fluoride far outweigh the possible negatives, which is why we at Hudson Family Dental recommended regular fluoride treatments for children and teens. While fluoride’s benefits are evident at any age, they are most effective between the ages of six and 16 — when the teeth are actively growing.
